Pluto pictures highlight satellite potential
Along with many others on planet Earth, I have been captivated by the amazing images of Pluto’s surface captured by NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft and sent back across some 4.3 billion kilometres (2.7bn miles) of space. The capture and transmission of such detailed images highlights the progress in the whole area of satellite technology and prompts the mind to contemplate the potential that the increasing number of earth-orbiting satellites could hold for the transport sector.

Cloud-based data collection showcased by Ericsson
At the 2015 ITS World Congress, Ericsson will highlight how transport ecosystems players can share data or partner to benefit from the increased amount of traffic data, and at the same time contribute to reducing circulating vehicles, traffic jams and accidents. According to Ericsson, traffic authorities today are dependent on limited sources of information for decision making such as road sensors and cameras, and mass media modes of communication for alerting drivers. Meanwhile, commuters are increasingly
