Trakm8 unveils 4G telematics in-cab camera
Trakm8 (T8) has announced the launch of its 4G new-in-cab camera integrated with fully-featured telematics which can monitor both the road ahead and the inside of the cab. It also provides operators with real-time images and video footage surrounding harsh events picked up by the device’s built-in accelerometer and allows fleet managers to live stream footage from the cab.

Direct Line showcases The Smart Crossing in London

Cubic Transportation Systems launches Cubic NextBus
Cubic has announced its business division, Cubic Transportation Systems, is releasing the Cubic NextBus (CNB) to multimodal transit agencies, authorities and operators to provide Transit Management as a Service. The CNB uses public cloud architecture and machine learning capabilities for further enhanced real-time passenger information (RTPI), proactive transit fleet operations and mobile user experience.

Over half Victorian motorists no longer consider petrol combustion engines in next purchase, Australia
More than half of the 15, 047 Victorian motorists who participated in EastLink’s first annual self-driving vehicle survey are no longer considering a traditional petrol combustion engine for their next car purchase. The findings come as toll route operator announced the overall results from the survey. EastLink’s survey, with the support from the Australian Road Research Board, was conducted online over a 4-week period for motorists between 11 September and 8 October.

TRAFIC 2017: Automobile and scooter brands to exhibit electric mobility models
A total of 8 automobile and scooter brands will be presenting 14 models at TRAFIC 2017, the International Safe and Sustainable Mobility Exhibition, at the new electric and efficient mobility area, from 24 to 27 October. Travel app pilot for young people in Dundee and North East Fife
Young people aged 16 - 25 are being invited to trial a new travel app or their Young Scot card over a six month period. The project is funded by Innovate UK and is designed to make it easier for people in this age range to travel the fastest and cheapest routes within Dundee and North East Fife. EU-wide Railway at low level status of deployment
Deployment of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), an EU-wide railway signalling system is proceeding at a very low-level, according to a new report from European Court of Auditors. In assessing if the ERTMS had been proper planned, deployed and managed, the auditors visited Denmark, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and the Netherlands and detected a reluctance from infrastructure managers to invest in the necessary equipment due the expense and a lack individual business cases.

Conduent showcases products at annual American Public Transportation Association Expo

Omnitron launches new Enterprise and Industrial PoE fiber switches
Fiber connectivity provider Omnitron has introduced two new fiber switches, RuggedNet (RN) and OmniConverter (OC), which it claims enables fiber optic distance extension to PoE and PoE+ powered devices, available in managed and unmanaged models. The RN industrial PoE fiber switches are designed for deployments in transportation, manufacturing, energy and other IoT applications. They can also be DIN-rail mounted and feature single or dual DC power inputs and contact closures that can generate alarms.

AAA Foundation: Infotainment Systems distract and endanger drivers
Vehicle infotainment systems take drivers eyes off the road and hands off the wheel for potentially dangerous periods of time, according to the latest research from the American Automobile Association’s Foundation for Traffic Safety (AFTF). The AFTF commissioned researchers from the University of Utah to examine visual (eyes off road) and cognitive (mental) demands and the time taken to complete infotainment systems tasks on 120 drivers aged 12 -36 on 30 new 2017 model-year vehicles.

TRL launches VR blind spot detector
UK-based research establishment TRL has launched a blind spot simulator rig which uses virtual reality to improve truck cab design, road layouts and improve the safety of road users and reduce costs for designers. The precision of the system is based on a physical rig developed by TRL and Volvo. It ensures an accurate representation of direct vision from a real-life Volvo vehicle cab which allows seat, steering and wheel adjustments to be replicated for each driver.

Parkeon Transportation partners Timepsace on vehicle surveillance
Parkeon Transportation has partnered with technology provider Timespace to expand the company's integration capability into on-vehicle surveillance. CCTV specialist Anthony O' Brien has joined the company and will be working with bus companies to implement digital video recording technology to augment passenger safety and asset security. Through using this technology, the systems will record key data along with hi-definition imagery, along with live view connectivity.
