RetroTek-MU certified as dynamic mobile retroreflectometer
The RetroTek-MU (RTM) has been certified to ASTM E 1710 standard as a dynamic mobile retroreflectometer, according to testing, monitoring and certification association for road-owners, StrAus-Zert (SAZ). It is capable of measuring road markings / striping across the full width of a traffic lane simultaneously in one pass at traffic speeds up to 75mph and can be operated by one driver. EarthSense Systems reveals cleaner air routes in city-wide project
A project has been launched to produce city-wide visualisations of air quality through combining EarthSense Systems' (ESS) ordnance survey (OS) geospatial data and real-time air quality data. The technology, a joint venture between Bluesky and University of Leicester, is being used to highlight areas of higher pollution and allows users to identify cleaner air routes such as parks or canal routes. ESS captures measurements on air quality through using a zephyr sensor and a city-wide network of sensors.

AlcoDigital and Renault Trucks partner to prevent drink driving deaths
Alcohol safety and training specialist AlcoDigital (AD) has joined forces with Renault Trucks to showcase and offer a new safety device in their latest range of LCV Master business fleet vehicles, which will feature at the Freight in the City Exhibition 7 November 2017. The alcohol safety device, Draeger Interlock 7000, will monitor drivers by requiring them to pass a breathalyzer test before they start the engine.

ITF study: shared mobility can cut congestion and CO2 emissions
A new ITF mobility study in Helsinki confirms that a combination of 6-seater shared taxis and taxi buses can carry out all of today’s car journeys in the city area with just 4% of the current number of privately owned vehicles. These shared mobility platforms also mean fewer changes, less waiting and shorter travel times compared to traditional public transport. In addition, the results confirm improved access to jobs and public services, most notably for citizens in areas with few such offers.

Driver Ahead conference: more training needed on driverless cars
Driverless cars can create confusion unless training meets the fast pace of change and helps drivers cope with a whole new set of demands, according to a conclusion reached by industry experts at London’s ‘Driver Ahead’ conference in London. The IAM RoadSmart/ RAC Foundation/ Pirelli event consisted of over 100 industry experts who set out to map a safe route for driverless cars. eCall demo tours demonstrations across four European cities
The eCall for Heavy Goods Vehicle Demo Tour, organised by I_HeERO, has started and will travel across four European cities to demonstrate the technology’s potential to save lives from traffic accidents involving heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches. The tour will host a truck equipped with an emergency eCall module that will activate to simulate collision scenarios. Trapeze launches OnBoard for bus operators to communicate with traffic office
Transport technology provider Trapeze has launched a new online portal to enabling bus operators to communicate with their traffic office in real-time from virtually any location. It also designed with the aim of improving schedule efficiency and driver shifts by using roadside relief points.The new system, OnBoad, is an extension of the Duty Allocation System (DAS) which helps minimise staff costs and overtime payments, reduce allocation wastage and manage driver payment and holidays.

MnDOT chooses StreetLight Data for traffic intelligence data
Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has selected mobility analytics company StreetLigtht Data for a pilot subscription to provide traffic intelligence and real-time travel patterns on major events and statewide development projects. The InSight subscription will provide unlimited analyses on drivers across Minnesota, such as origin-destination and select link studies.

Masabi integrates Justride SDK into Transit app
Mobile ticketing company Masabi has announced its software development kit, Justride SDK, will be integrated into the North America public transport app Transit. LA Metro awards contract to New Flyer for up to 100 battery electric transit buses
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) has awarded North America transit bus manufacturer New Flyer, a subsidiary of New Flyer Industries, a contract for up to 100 Xcelsio Battery-electric 60-foot transit buses. The order is part of LA Metro’s commitment to all-electric transit buses by 20230.The contract includes 35 firm orders with the option to purchase an additional 65 buses.

Call for ITS World Congress in Copenhagen now open
The Call for Contributions for ITS World Congress in Copenhagen 2018 are now open with a deadline for 15 December 2017. Leading up to the event, the City of Copenhagen and the Danish Industry Foundation have hosted the first ITS Hackathon, which aims to motivate Danish businesses to test new ITS solutions in the urban environment.
