Nissan’s European Technical Centre will lead a 30-month Autonomous Vehicle trial on UK country roads, high speed roundabouts, A-Roads and motorways with live traffic and different environmental conditions. Called the HumanDrive project, it will also emulate a natural human driving style with the intention of providing an enhanced experience for its occupants. More than a third of UK police forces used mobile safety camera vans to prosecute over 8,000 drivers for not wearing seatbelts and around 1,000 with a mobile phone in their hand in, according to IAM RoadSmart’s freedom of Information request in 2016. It was submitted to 44 police forces which revealed that 16 of them used pictures from the cameras in their vans to pursue these offences as a matter of routine while a further four did so occasionally.

Black Veatch in partnership with Virgin Hyperloop One (VHO) and the University of Missouri System will conduct a feasibility study of an ultra-high-speed hyperloop route along I-70 in the state on behalf of The Missouri Hyperloop Coalition. The proposed route would connect a combined five million residents in Kansas City, Columbia and St. Louis with a journey time under 30-minutes. Iveco Bus will supply 50 Crealis buses which run on Compressed Natural Gas and are 18 meters in length to the city of Abidjan’s transit provider Société des transports Abidjanais (SOTRA). These models are said to be the first High Service Level Bus to be delivered to the African continent and will be deployed to help reduce emissions and noise levels. Japan-based Denso has developed a new standard vision sensor that aims to detect pedestrians at night, cyclists, road signs, driving lanes and other road users. Parkeon Transportations has upgraded 51 Edinburgh Trams ticketing terminals to accept contactless debit and credit cards, along with Apple Pay and Android Pay on mobile devices with the intention of enabling commuters to purchase tickets easier and quicker. It has reached 50% of all terminal-based transactions in the first two weeks.

GVB, the authority operating the municipal public transport network in Amsterdam, has awarded Indra a contract to install more than 130 automatic ticket vending machines at the city’s underground, streetcar and bus network. The technology aims to make it easier for users to purchase tickets within a more simplified system. Indra has confirmed it will implement the solution in less than two years.
