The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) has signed an agreement with the International Road Federation to cooperate on intelligent transportation systems (ITS). They aim to develop a National ITS Policy covering traffic management, parking, enforcement, fleet management and monitoring, along with ITS innovation and education, with the objective of reducing urban traffic congestion.

Transport for London (TfL) has rejected Uber London’s application for a new private hire operator license. The move follows a review and a joint petition between global consumer group SumOfUs and GMB union. TfL concluded that Uber is not fit and proper to hold a private hire operator license and shows a lack of responsibility in conduct.

Seattle Public Schools in the US has launched the Student Safety Stop Arm Camera Program initiative, in partnership with King County and American Traffic Solutions to deter drivers from illegally passing school buses that are loading and unloading students.

Gatso USA, a subsidiary of Sensys Gatso Group, has been awarded a three-year extension on its automated red light enforcement managed services contract with the town of Abington, Pennsylvania. The extension, effective 30 September, is valued at US$1.5 million (SEK 12 million) and covers the continued maintenance and operation of a managed service program based on T-Series cameras and the Xilium back office solution, originally awarded to Gatso USA in 2014.

The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority has appointed WSP USA as the agency’s independent consulting engineer for engineering projects associated with the Illinois Tollway. Under the 54-month contract, WSP will work on a number of current and future tollway projects planned by the Authority. These include the 22-mile Tri-State Tollway Expansion, set to begin design in 2018, the ongoing design and construction of the Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project

FairFuelUK (FFUK) has launched a crowd funding campaign to raise money to challenge London mayor Sidiq Khan’s T-Charge on drivers on older diesel and petrol vehicles. It is also calling for the UK government to set up an independent public inquiry to investigate alternative solutions for improving air quality in UK cities.

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation in the US has announced the addition of new automated enforcement locations, as part of the city’s Automated Traffic Violation Enforcement System (ATVES). The cameras will be activated on 25 September. The city plans to install speed cameras at 15 locations, mainly in school zones, while red-light cameras will be activated at 21 locations in the city, Enforcement at all locations may be on a temporary, rotating or permanent basis.

The city of Toronto, Canada has seen an average drop of 40 per cent in the number of collisions causing a death or serious injury at intersections equipped with red light cameras, according to the Toronto Star. At some locations, there have been no deaths or serious injuries caused by collisions since the cameras were installed.The city has almost doubled its red light cameras as part of a plan it says is aimed at eliminating traffic death and serious injuries.

Sensys Gatso Group has received an order from its partner KTC International for red light enforcement systems to be deployed in Qatar. The order, valued at US$616,000 (SEK 5 million) is for systems similar to those supplied in 2015 and is subject to a letter of credit. The order is expected to be fully delivered before the end of the year.

Speed surveys at 12 locations on the A75 Gretna Green to Stranraer road in Scotland, carried out by Clearview Intelligence on behalf of Transport Scotland, found that in some cases speeds were unacceptably high, particularly with heavy goods vehicles.
