Fluor chosen for LA International Airport Automated People Mover
Fluor Corporation (Fluor) has been chosen to lead the design-build joint venture team to operate and maintain the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Automated People Mover project for the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA). It aims to provide passengers and employees with reliable and time-certain access to the airline terminals with the design and construction commencing later this year. The passenger service is scheduled for 2023.

Traffic Group announces three senior leadership appointments
The Traffic Group has promoted Anthony Guckert to executive vice president, Glenn Cook to senior vice president and Carl Wilson, P.E, PTOE, to vice president. Guckert will oversee staff working on both public and private sectors throughout the United States, Cook will handle the preparation of traffic impact studies and other plans, while Wilson’s responsibilities include managing projects throughout Maryland and neighbouring jurisdictions. Targa Telematics launch device carmakers and rental companies
Italy-based Targa Telematics (TT) has launched a new device with the intention of meeting the quality and cybersecurity standards imposed by car makers as well as the needs of car rental companies. Called Targa Plexer Smart, its microprocessors are said to enable edge computing and artificial intelligence functionalities to help reduce data transfer costs.

TomTom Telematics rebuilds Webfleet for faster fleet management
Amsterdam-based TomTom Telematics (TTT) has rebuilt its Webfleet solution which is said to carry out a more effective job dispatch while delivering routing, navigation and traffic information when coupled with the new range of TomTom Pro Driver Terminals. The Software-as-as-Service solution comes with an enhanced feature which enables managers to pre-plan specific routes, or avoid certain locations. IAMRoadSmart: Over a third of police use mobile safety camera vans
More than a third of UK police forces used mobile safety camera vans to prosecute over 8,000 drivers for not wearing seatbelts and around 1,000 with a mobile phone in their hand in, according to IAM RoadSmart’s freedom of Information request in 2016. It was submitted to 44 police forces which revealed that 16 of them used pictures from the cameras in their vans to pursue these offences as a matter of routine while a further four did so occasionally.

Trump calls on Congress to produce $1.5tn bill for infrastructure
President Donald Trump has announced a plan in his State of Union to push Congress to approve a $1.5tn (£1.05tn) scheme which he described will “build gleaming new roads, bridges, highways, railways, and waterways across our land.” A report from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association revealed that 54,259 of the nation’s bridges are rated structurally deficient with Americans crossing them 174 million times a day. Arbella launch safe driving app for Massachusetts and Connecticut
The Arbella Insurance Group (Arbella) and Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) have launched a driving app for all residents of Massachusetts and Connecticut with the intention of changing driver behaviour and improving safety through real-time feedback, personalised data and insights and gamification. Denso launches vision sensor for improved night driving safety
Japan-based Denso has developed a new standard vision sensor that aims to detect pedestrians at night, cyclists, road signs, driving lanes and other road users. It works with a millimetre-wave radar sensor, enabling automobiles to activate emergency braking when obstacles are identified to help reduce accidents and improve safety.
