Canada partners with University to support Auto Innovation
Canada has joined forces with the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) to upgrade its Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE) with the intention of assisting companies and researchers in their efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the automotive industry. Under the agreement, ACE will add a Moving Ground Plane – a belt that serves as a road moving under a vehicle, simulating the aerodynamic forces against moving vehicles and measuring the physical characteristics in real-world conditions.

Norway uses connected cars to increase safety on wintry roads
Norwegian road authority Norska Statens Vegvesen (NSV) is deploying Klimator and Nira Dynamics’ Road Status Information (RSI) software in connected cars to determine and transmit road grip conditions in real-time with the intention of increasing safety on wintry roads. RSI uses algorithms that combine the data from the vehicles with information from roadside weather stations and weather forecasts. Panasonic and Trend Micro to enhance cyber security for connected cars
Panasonic has joined forces with Trend Micro to develop solutions that protect autonomous and connected cars against cyber attacks, with the intention of launching commercially after 2020. The partnership will focus on advancing technologies that detect and prevent intrusions into Electronic Control Units (ECUs) which manage acceleration, steering and braking as well as in-vehicle infotainment devices.

Maven has launched its car sharing service in Toronto and is offering members an app to locate and reserve a vehicle as part of a strategy to help reduce congestion and remove the need for car ownership. Highways England to deploy three HGV cabs to tackle unsafe driving
Highways England (HE) and Dawson Rentals have entered a partnership to deploy three unmarked HGV cabs that will patrol motorways and main trunk roads after one was used by Police to help catch over 4,000 dangerous drivers in its first two years. Trump unveils U.S. infrastructure investment
U.S. president Donald Trump has announced that he wants Congress to approve $200bn (£144bn) bill, which he said will stimulate another $1.3tn (£9bn) in improvements as part of his plan to fix the country’s infrastructure. Kistler Group (Kistler) will showcase its KiTraffic Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) solutions at this year’s Intertraffic in Amsterdam from the 20-23 March 2018. Swarco installs 34 VAS cameras to calm speeding in Brent
Swarco Traffic has installed 34 Vehicle Activated Speed signs (VAS) at key locations in the UK borough of Brent to support its council in reducing collisions, road danger and accidents that involve powered two wheelers (P2Ws) such as motorcycles and mopeds. Motorcycles account for 19% of all road user deaths despite representing 1% of total road traffic, according to the National Think Road Safety Campaign.
