Graham Construction wins ITS system contract on Forth replacement crossing

Graham Construction has won the contract, worth over US$21 million, to provide the state-of-the-art ITS for the new Forth Bridge replacement crossing in Scotland. Safetran, an Econolite Group company, has been awarded a two-year traffic cabinet purchase order contract from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and will begin shipping cabinets this month. This contract marks the second time in a row Safetran has successfully competed and passed Caltrans’ stringent quality assurance criteria to be selected as the traffic cabinet supplier to the transportation agency.

Romanian group wins traffic management contract in Poland

UTI, a Romanian headquartered company, has won a tender launched by the city of Szczecin, in Poland, for the development and implementation of a traffic management system. The contract, which is worth around US$2.58 million, was won against bids submitted by Peek Traffic of the Netherlands, Kapsch of Austria and Sprint and Telsat of Poland.
Slovakia/Austria toll system may be interconnected

Motorway toll systems of Slovakia and Austria may be interconnected as part of the planned European interoperability. Operators of the national systems, SkyToll of Slovakia and Asfinag of Austria, have expressed interest in cooperation, saying that they will hold further, more detailed negotiations. SkyToll claims that the satellite system in Slovakia is ready for interoperability with the systems of the neighbouring countries and any changes can be implemented quickly.
EU to fund pan-European EV infrastructure demo project

An innovative project to demonstrate what a pan-European infrastructure and service provision for electric vehicles could look like will receive almost €5 million (US$7.1 million) in EU co-funding from the TEN-T budget. The project, which was presented under the 2010 TEN-T Annual Call, constitutes an essential first step towards a possible viable deployment of open-access infrastructure for electric vehicles across the EU over the next ten years.
Seoul building cyber attack-resistant traffic and transport control system

According to a report in the Korea Times today, Seoul city officials are city urgently undertaking the development and of an integrated traffic information and operation system resistant to cyber terrorism to guard the city's traffic network from outside attacks. The Seoul Metropolitan Government said it plans to build an advanced transport management system that monitors the total traffic network around the clock by the end of this year, as part of efforts to vigilantly respond against any security threat.

RBF Consulting selected for ‘hot spots’ feasibility analysis

RBF Consulting has been selected by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to provide transportation planning and engineering for the Measure R funded I-605 Congestion ‘Hot Spots’ Feasibility Analysis. Hot spots are identified as major traffic congestion areas, attributed to increasing passenger car and truck traffic, localised capacity and/or operational constraints on the freeway, or arterial street system.
