Amey and URS/Scott Wilson win ITS maintenance contract

Amey and URS/Scott Wilson have won a four-year contract to manage, maintain and improve ITS throughout Wales. This includes all the associated telecommunications and tunnel systems for the entire motorway and trunk road network in Wales. The contract, which starts this month, will see the companies managing a wide range of motorway technology including telephones, signals, CCTV cameras and the two traffic management centres.
Dynalectric to modify traffic signals in LA

Emcor Group’s Dynalectric Los Angeles subsidiary has been awarded contracts by the City of Los Angeles, California, to upgrade and modify the existing traffic signal equipment in the Wilmington and Canoga Park districts of Los Angeles, as part of the city’s new automated traffic surveillance and control system. Fears that the closure of a heavily congested stretch of highway in the US city of Los Angeles would lead to massive gridlock over the weekend proved groundless. The demolition of the Mulholland Overpass crossing above I-405 required a 53 hour closure of the busy highway along a 16km stretch. New York Mayor Bloomberg has unveiled a new, technology-based traffic management system that allows city traffic engineers to monitor and respond to Midtown Manhattan traffic conditions in real time, improving traffic flow on the city’s most congested streets.
TransCore involved in two ITS New York awards

TransCore has announced it participated in two winning projects announced at the ITS New York 18th Annual Meeting and Technology Exhibition. Of the six projects to receive awards, TransCore participated in the Outstanding Project of the Year in Traffic Control Systems for Integrated Adaptive Traffic Signal Control Decision Support and the Outstanding Project of the Year in Roadway Management for the New York State Thruway's Woodbury Toll Barrier - Highway Speed E-Z Pass system.

Bridge demolition causing traffic delays in Los Angeles

The California city of Los Angeles is expected to suffer unprecedented levels of road congestion this weekend. The city has some of the most congested stretches of highway in the US and arguably the world. However the need to demolish a highway bridge will result in a highway closure, including a key interchange that carries extremely heavy traffic volumes. The I-405 San Diego highway will be closed between the San Fernando Valley and the LA Basin.
Iteris wins traffic light synchronisation project along major California corridor

Greater Manchester Combined Authority with Transport for Greater Manchester have awarded to Siemens one of the most significant service contracts of its kind for the long-term maintenance of traffic signalling equipment across all ten districts of Greater Manchester. Under Transport for Greater Manchester’s guidance, the service contract is designed to secure substantial energy savings and reduce carbon emissions.
