Industrial camera manufacturer Imaging Development systems’ (IDS) new Vision Suite 1.0 offers software support for evaluating and setting up GigE Vision cameras quickly and easily. Cubic and TfL launch mobile ticketing app for Oyster card customers
Cubic Transportation Systems and Transport for London (TfL) have launched the TfL mobile ticketing app for Oyster card users in London. Designed by TfL and developed by Cubic, the app allows Oyster card users to manage travel fares and payments, top up their cards and view journey history via an Android or Apple iOS devices.

A change of tack
For some time, it has been evident that the quickening pace of technological advancement has been outpacing the ability of legislators to introduce new laws and amend existing legislation. One example was, apparently, UK legislation specifying that vehicles are fitted with filament lights which was drafted to outlaw acetylene lamps but a century later delayed the introduction of LED technology on vehicles.

Speak up for Transportation
Transportation is often blamed for many of the world’s ills and some of it is undeniable, such as 1.2 million road deaths a year or poor urban air quality shortening the lives of those with heart or lung problems. However, every incident has many contributing factors. Sometimes transport may indeed be the biggest contributor – but it is almost always the easiest target because it is always simpler to blame machines than people.

Sony launches new CMOS sensor for automotive cameras
Sony’s new 2.45 (effective) megapixel CMOS image sensor, the IMX390CQV type 1/2.7, is equipped with an LED flicker mitigation function that reduces flickering when shooting LED signs and traffic signals, as well as an HDR function capable of 120 dB wide dynamic range shooting. The sensor also offers high-sensitivity performance capable of producing high-quality colour images even in very low light conditions.
