Motorists drive to a location to do something, not to park. Minimising the effort required to park is the aim of a new system that integrates EasyPark’s new in-car parking payment app with the forthcoming Volvo Sensus Connect in-car information and navigation system. When a motorist parks up, at a location suggested by Sensus Connect close to the driver’s stated destination, they receive a message on the dashboard display asking if they wish to start a parking transaction.

Sick is highlighting three innovations on its stand: an automated hot spot detector, an integrated tunnel sensor and a vehicle profiling system. The VHD Pro (vehicle hotspot detector) combines laser-based 3D modelling and infrared imaging to automatically differentiate between allowable hot spots (such as engines and transmissions) and those which could result in a fire. Without the need for human oversight, the system can detect a worrying hot spot (brakes or load) on a vehicle in less than five seconds. T

Intercomp is now offering improved high speed, weigh in motion technology. Intercomp’s Eric Peterson vice president said: “The conventional application is that it’s used for screening. What makes it new is that it relies on strain gauge technology. We’ve downsized it.” He added that strain gauge measurement technology offers a greater degree of accuracy than conventional systems.

Small German company 3D-Kennzeichen is seeking to replace traditional numberplates with its new, polypropylene version, which the company says has several advantages over the existing aluminium type. Company owner Dr Michael Baueionr comes at the sector from an unusual direction. A label industry specialist, he is also a polymer chemist with a longstanding interest in polypropylene and its qualities.

Fresh from success in helping the Russian city of Sochi prepare for the Winter Olympics, Czech traffic technology company Cross is showing two new products at Intertraffic. Its RS 4S traffic controller is a more compact, cost-efficient version of its existing model. German parking technology specialist JCM says that it is achieving good market penetration in the market with some leading firms in the sector. The iPro-RC unit features twin large capacity chambers and roller friction recycling technology, allowing it to recycle notes that have been paid in for instant payouts. Other features include proven note acceptance technology and a lockable cashbox that can be removed when required.

Slovenian numberplate producer Kig is showing its latest high-security production system, Veresis, which is designed to remove the risk of counterfeiting and ensure tight control over a nation’s numberplate production. Veresis is a software system that covers every aspect of numberplate production, from its creation to its eventual disposal. A numberplate producer buying the system is linked electronically to the country’s government ministry responsible for vehicle registration.

As Intertraffic opened Skidata and Stentofon announced a partnership which is set to deliver enhanced communications for the parking sector. The partnership will see Stentofon’s Pulse framework audio communication systems used in Skidata’s parking devices for bidirectional communication between car park operators and their customers. This enables Skidata to provide hardware-free and server-less VoIP-intercom communication as an integrated part of its widely spread parking solutions.

Border Barrier Systems has developed the highly versatile Road Runner, which is designed for quick situations in temporary delineation applications. The product can be used in a wide array of applications including inner city areas, street works, airports, car parks, pedestrian safety and major events. German motorcycle manufacturer BMW is offering bikes built to meet the needs of emergency services. Meanwhile, Dutch firm HSC Nieuw-Vennup can further fine tune the BMW machines to meet specific customer requirements. The new BMW electric scooter now meets German usage regulations and will be available across Europe. This vehicle is well-suited to the needs of urban traffic control duties, offering a range of 100km, a top speed of 120km/h and 0-50km/h acceleration in 2.7 seconds thanks to its 35kW motor.

Scottish firm Findlay Irvine has developed a sophisticated new microgrip testing system. This is a walk-behind surface friction measurement unit that shares many operating capabilities with the firm’s proven towed unit. Business development manager Campbell Waddell explained: “It works on the same principle as the towed machine. We developed it as we kept getting asked to use the trailer based unit for jobs it wasn’t suited to, like pedestrian areas and cycleways.”

Efficient sign printing is offered by Avery Dennison’s new TrafficJet unit, while its new sheeting offers high visibility. The firm claims the TrafficJet machine offers a fast return on investment, with an economical purchase price and efficient running costs.

Italian firm Snoline says that its Tau Tube redirective crash cushion offers low-cost crash protection. Paula Ferraris, communications & marketing manager for the firm said: “It is like the previous Tau but with a new impact absorbing system. The German company says its new product is much more environmentally-friendly than traditional screen-printing techniques when it comes to printing road signs in retroreflective materials.
