A segregated, mechanical three-position variable message sign able to display lane closures and other instructions is making its debut on the Triplesign stand. An electric motor turns the vertical triangular elements in the sign to display the required message and in the latest incarnation a set of three vertical elements depicts each lane of the road and can be individually controlled to indicate which lanes are open or closed.

Edesix is showing a new version of its VideoBadge, which deters confrontations between the public and enforcement staff by filming incidents. The original VideoBadge, which is worn on the enforcement or police officer’s clothing, was introduced in 2011; by sliding down the front, the camera lens was exposed and started to record the scene, while a visible sign saying ‘recording in process’ was revealed. Minimising the effort required to park is the aim of a new system that integrates EasyPark’s new in-car parking payment app with the forthcoming Volvo Sensus Connect in-car information and navigation system. When a motorist parks up, at a location suggested by Sensus Connect close to the driver’s stated destination, they receive a message on the dashboard display asking if they wish to start a parking transaction.

Sick is highlighting three innovations on its stand: an automated hot spot detector, an integrated tunnel sensor and a vehicle profiling system. The VHD Pro (vehicle hotspot detector) combines laser-based 3D modelling and infrared imaging to automatically differentiate between allowable hot spots (such as engines and transmissions) and those which could result in a fire. Without the need for human oversight, the system can detect a worrying hot spot (brakes or load) on a vehicle in less than five seconds. T

What makes it new is that it relies on strain gauge technology. We’ve downsized it.” He added that strain gauge measurement technology offers a greater degree of accuracy than conventional systems.
