RWE wins charging station contract for Amsterdam
The Dutch energy utility Essent, a wholly owned subsidiary of RWE AG, has been asked by Amsterdam City Council to install at least 125 charging stations for electric vehicles, but the delivery may be extended up to 750 charging points.

India's terrifying road fatality rate
The fatality rate from road accidents in India continues to be of major concern to the country’s Government, highway authorities and safety campaigners. A report from India’s National Crime Records Bureau has highlighted the scale of the problem. Called “Accidental Deaths in India", this official report reveals that reported road accidents caused on average 56 injuries/hour and 14 deaths/hour during 2009. The fatal accident rate also increased from the previous year according to the report, which says that

Riga issues tender to upgrade traffic light systems
Latvia's Riga City Council is planning to upgrade street lightning systems, including traffic and safety lights in several city areas. For this purpose, a public construction tender has been invited. The project's value is estimated at LVL 1.03mn (US$2.08 million), of which the European Regional Development Fund will co-finance LVL 0.55mn. Closing date for tender bids is 9 May 2011.

Transdyn unveils new TMS
Transdyn, Inc. has recently designed, built and installed a Traffic Management System (TMS) for Transurban’s I-495 Express Lanes in Northern Virginia. The project included the addition of four new lanes on the Virginia side of the Capital Beltway and replacing $260 million-worth of ageing infrastructure.
