Boost efforts to develop intermodal ticketing, say Transport MEPs
Transport services providers and providers of journey planners should build on existing synergies and cooperate more closely on providing multimodal, cross-border journey planners, European Commission transport MEPs said. They are calling on the Commission to take the measures necessary to support and facilitate the efforts being made on development of intermodal ticketing.

Intergraph to design traffic monitoring system for US highway 407 concession
Information technology provider Intergraph has been awarded a contract by the 407 ETR Concession Company (407 ETR), the concessionaire of Highway 407 ETR in Toronto, Ontario, to design and implement an integrated traffic monitoring system to provide the Highway Operations group with real-time spatial information of incidents on the Ontario highway.

Oklahoma DOT opts for IRD WIM screening system
Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has awarded International Road Dynamics (IRD) a US$2.54 million project to build, implement, and maintain a new and innovative port-of-entry (POE) electronic screening system (ESS) for commercial vehicles at Interstate-40 westbound, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. Sony’s shows 4K camera at Istanbul
A pre-production 4K digital camera with a 144x zoom is making its debut on the Sony stand. The resolution of the diminutive camera’s rolling-shutter CMOS sensor is four times that of full HDTV and comes with a 12X optical zoom in addition to 20x digital zoom. In the first 8x range of the digital zoom Sony says there is no loss of resolution and has called this a Clear Image Zoom.

Poland plans national traffic management system
The Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) is planning to invest some US$1.06 billion in the construction of a national traffic management system (KSZR). The system will be equipped cameras and sensors to provide road users with traffic data on travel times, congestion or accidents via the internet, smartphones and social networking.

City of Cambridge partners with Volpe on truck side guards
The City of Cambridge, Massachusetts is partnering with Volpe, the National Transportation Systems Center, to install truck side guards on city-owned trucks in order to enhance safety for pedestrians and bicyclists travelling in Cambridge. The city intends to install these side guards on heavy-duty vehicles in an effort to lead by example in Massachusetts and to encourage private entities to do the same.

Cotswolds introduces EV rapid charging technology
Siemens has supplied and installed two triple-outlet, multi-standard rapid charging points in Cirencester and Moreton-in-Marsh for Cotswold District Council (CDC), UK, providing fast top-ups for visitors and residents with electric vehicles travelling within and through the region. A grant from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) provided funding for the project.

'World’s fastest’ RFID reader unveiled by Vendeka
Turkish company Vendeka has launched what it says is the world’s fastest RFID reader. “With security authentication, other readers can make seven or eight ‘reads’ per second,” said system design engineer Mehmet Çağlar. “This reader can do more than 14.”
