Volkswagen Group announces electrification initiative with ‘Roadmap E’
The Volkswagen Group is using the 2017 IAA international motor show in Frankfurt, Germany to launch its comprehensive electrification initiative, ‘Roadmap E’ and aims to have electrified its entire model portfolio by 2030 at the latest. Toll route operator Eastlink, with support from Australian Road Research Board, has launched the first of an annual Victorian self-driving vehicle survey for Victorian motorists’ attitudes to and perceptions of self-driving vehicles, to be completed 8 October 2017. Some of the major players in the global market for internet of things (IoT) in intelligent transportation systems are investing heavily in developing solutions, according to Transparency Market Research. As a result, it predicts that the market for IoT in intelligent transportation systems will rise at a 19.8 per cent CAGR during the period between 2017 and 2025. Baltimore expands speed, red-light camera system
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation in the US has announced the addition of new automated enforcement locations, as part of the city’s Automated Traffic Violation Enforcement System (ATVES). The cameras will be activated on 25 September. The city plans to install speed cameras at 15 locations, mainly in school zones, while red-light cameras will be activated at 21 locations in the city, Enforcement at all locations may be on a temporary, rotating or permanent basis.

Pilot shows how wi-fi data could improve London Underground journeys
Journeys on London Underground could be improved through Transport for London (TfL) harnessing wi-fi data to make more information available to customers as they move around London, new research has shown. The four-week TfL pilot, which ran between November and December last year, studied how depersonalised wi-fi connection data from customers' mobile devices could be used to better understand how people navigate the London Underground network, allowing TfL to improve the experience for customers.

GSSI partners with MIT Lincoln Laboratory to develop LGPR for autonomous vehicles
US-based Geophysical Survey Systems (GSSI), manufacturer of ground penetrating radar (GPR) equipment, has entered into a licensing agreement with Massachusetts Institute of technology (MIT) Lincoln Laboratory to build and sell commercial prototypes of their localised ground penetrating radar (LGPR) system, which helps autonomous vehicles navigate by using subsurface geology. Low carbon vehicle technology competition winners announced at LCV 2017
The winners securing a share of a recent US$5 million (£3.9 million) investment for low carbon development and demonstration projects in the niche vehicle sector have been announced at LCV 2017. Thirty projects have been successful in receiving grant funding from the Niche Vehicle Network competitions, collectively supported by Innovate UK, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC).
