Init will upgrade Metrolink’s ticketing vending devices (TVDs) in Los Angeles with the stated aim of improving the rail authority’s operating efficiency and lowering costs. The project is also expected to make fare purchases easier for riders. The scope of the delivery includes 155 TVDs, seven ticket office machines and a core back-office account-based system. The TVDs will accept both cash and cashless transactions.

Virgin Hyperloop One will open a development and testing centre in Malaga, Spain, in a bid to accelerate the development and testing of hyperloop technology. The facility is expected to be complete by 2020. The initiative, valued US$500m, stems from an agreement with the state-owned infrastructure agency Administrator of Railway Infrastructures. Virgin Hyperloop One will receive €126m in public aid through loans and grants to help establish the centre and advance its technology development.

BYD is expanding its presence in Italy through the delivery of 12 electric buses to Padua, a city in the north east Veneto region. The vehicles are expected to be delivered to bus operator Busitalia Veneto in the third quarter of 2018. BYD currently has 25 ebuses operating in Milan, Turin and Novara.

Bluecity has launched an electric car-sharing service comprising 100 vehicles for passengers travelling to and from London's Gatwick Airport. The company says a standard journey from Central London will cost around £15 in moderate traffic. Guy Stephenson, Gatwick Airport’s chief commercial officer, says the service also improves air quality. Ten cars and charging points are available on Gatwick's South Terminal forecourt. Sony Europe’s Image Sensing Solutions (ISS) says its XCL-SG1240 series of Camera Link V2.0 modules utilise a 1.1-type global shutter CMOS sensor to deliver 12 MP images at 20 fps. Bristol City Council will install 120 electric vehicle (EV) charge points and convert part of its fleet to electric in a bid to become carbon neutral by 2050. Wandsworth Council will continue rolling out cashless and contactless parking terminals in August to help provide residents and visitors with more convenient payment options.
