ITS providers urged to factor in inclusive mobility
Transport solution providers using ITS must consider disabled and vulnerable travellers in their initial thinking or miss out on a significant market, warns the ITS (UK) Inclusive Mobility Interest Group. Stage Intelligence’s AI platform deployed for Helsinki’s bike share scheme
Stage Intelligence has deployed its Bico artificial intelligence (AI) platform to urban transport operator Moventia and bike share operator CityBike Finland to support Helsinki’s bike share scheme. Stage Intelligence says Bico is actively collecting citywide data and optimising bike sharing operations in the city. Adaptive cruise control can mitigate phantom traffic jams, says Ford
Phantom traffic jams can be minimised through adaptive cruise control (ACC) technology, says Ford. These traffic jams occur when one driver hits the brakes and causes a chain reaction of other drivers tapping their brakes which causes traffic flow to halt. Hylium Industries unveils hydrogen refuelling station
South Korea-based technology company Hylium Industries says its mobile liquid hydrogen station can refuel up to 100 fuel cell electric vehicles per day. Hylium says the station will contribute to the expansion of liquid hydrogen supply infrastructure for hydrogen-powered cars worldwide. AVs will increase traffic in overcrowded downtown areas, says study
Autonomous vehicles (AVs) will reduce the number of cars and overall travel times in cities but potentially worsen conditions in downtown areas, says the World Economic Forum. The findings come from a study conducted alongside the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Telent awarded traffic signal maintenance contract in Sandwell
Telent Technology Services will provide maintenance services to Sandwell Council’s traffic signal network over the next four years. The £2m deal includes 109 traffic signal junctions, 174 pedestrian crossings and eight journey time monitoring cameras. The agreement sees the company maintain its ten-year contract of supplying maintenance services to Sandwell.

Yerka Bikes unveils anti-theft bicycle
Chile-based Yerka Bikes has launched an anti-theft bicycle which comes with an integrated lock in its structure. The company says the frame and seat post can become a hermetic lock that can adapt to any structure in seconds. APT Skidata will implement a ticketless parking solution at CitiPark’s 140-capacity carpark adjacent to Rickmansworth railway station, in Hertfordshire. The barrier-less product is intended to provide commuters using the station with a more flexible payment option. TfL’s Santander Cycles break hire records
Transport for London (TfL) says its Santander Cycles were used by record-breaking numbers of people in June (1.2million) and May (1.1m). The capital's heatwave has encouraged more people to explore the city on bicycles, the local government body adds. Santander Cycles met the demand by providing additional bikes at parks and launching a new trial in Westminster and the City which offered more of its models during peak commute times.

Muving’s e-scooter business enters Atlanta
European mobility technology company Muving has deployed electric scooters in Atlanta to provide residents with a zero-emission transportation service. The vehicles are available to riders at areas such as Ponce City Market, Piedmont Park, the King Center and Tech Square. Karhoo expands booking platform’s UK footprint
Karhoo says it has integrated most of the UK's major taxi and private hire dispatch management system (DMS) partners onto its electronic booking platform. The firm says it has signed with over 300 taxi and private hire vehicle (PHV) companies in a move which represents 51,000 cars. Companies include Autocab, Cab Guru, Haulmont, iCabbi and Magenta Technology.
