MassDOT all-electronic tolling accuracy rate ‘greater than 99 per cent’
Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has reported that, after six months of operation, its new cashless all-electronic tolling system along I-90 has seen transactions of almost a quarter of a billion, with an accuracy rate of greater than 99 per cent. The system requires drivers to use an E-ZPass transponder where the toll is paid electronically from a pre-paid account. Pricing practise for HOT lane operation
Timothy Compston weighs up the critical elements that keep the wheels of dynamic pricing schemes turning in today's high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes. In the drive towards smarter tolling it is perhaps not surprising that sophisticated pricing algorithms are being rolled out to better reflect supply and demand on the roadway. EU proposing toll charges based on CO2 emissions
The European Commission is aiming to cut road transport’s CO2 emissions and is proposing to introduce toll charges based on a vehicle’s emissions, according to Reuters. The proposal, which is expected to be published at the end of May, will also include buses and coaches as well as a requirement for motorists to pay according to the distance travelled. The proposal will keep the average level of tolls collected roughly constant, meaning more polluting vehicles will pay more while cleaner ones will pay less.
