Integrated urban transport system planned for Rabat by 2030
The Moroccan city of Rabat is studying the creation of an integrated transport network, which would initially involve tram and bus systems. As part of the 2030 vision, the Agence Urbaine de Rabat is planning on putting in place an integrated transport system covering the Rabat-Salé agglomeration and Témara, with the addition of a metro network This would link up the future TGV stations of Rabat-Agdal and Technopolis in Témara, and Salé, as well as the planned urban area in Akrach and the Rabat-Salé airport.

Free training on ITS standards
The US DoT’s ITS Joint Program Office is operating a comprehensive free training programme on evaluating, procuring, and implementing standards-based ITS devices and systems. The ITS Professional Capacity Building Program (ITS PCB) consists of 18 distinct 90-minutes web modules. Concepts presented build from module to module and, with the exception of Module 1, each module has prerequisites and references content in earlier modules.

EU approves US$660 billion to transform Europe's transport network
The EU's Council of transport ministers met in Brussels yesterday and approved a proposal for a new regulation of Trans European Transport – Network (TEN-T) guidelines, in a package for a Connecting Europe Facility. Siemens upgrades PC Scoot
Siemens has announced that the latest version of Scoot (Split Cycle Offset Optimisation Technique), the company’s adaptive traffic control system, has been integrated into its PC-based UTC system. Scoot MMX includes additional facilities to prioritise pedestrians at junctions, a significant upgrade of emissions estimates as well as features to improve operation during low flow periods. Kapsch to close Chinese factory and move work back to Vienna
Kapsch is to close its Chinese factory and produce its railway radio modules in its Vienna plant, which will be expanded. Although it will be five per cent more expensive to produce the products in Austria than China, wages are increasing in China and if the yuan is revalued the Chinese factory will no longer be able to compete with Austria. PTV extends cooperation with Gevas
German software provider PTV has taken a minority stake in Gevas software, a leading traffic engineering firm, further strengthening the companies' close ties.
