Safetran, an Econolite Group company, has been awarded a two-year traffic cabinet purchase order contract from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and will begin shipping cabinets this month. This contract marks the second time in a row Safetran has successfully competed and passed Caltrans’ stringent quality assurance criteria to be selected as the traffic cabinet supplier to the transportation agency.

McCain has announced a contract award from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) for 2070E traffic signal controllers, the first deployment of these units in New York.

UTI, a Romanian headquartered company, has won a tender launched by the city of Szczecin, in Poland, for the development and implementation of a traffic management system. The contract, which is worth around US$2.58 million, was won against bids submitted by Peek Traffic of the Netherlands, Kapsch of Austria and Sprint and Telsat of Poland.

Motorway toll systems of Slovakia and Austria may be interconnected as part of the planned European interoperability. Operators of the national systems, SkyToll of Slovakia and Asfinag of Austria, have expressed interest in cooperation, saying that they will hold further, more detailed negotiations. SkyToll claims that the satellite system in Slovakia is ready for interoperability with the systems of the neighbouring countries and any changes can be implemented quickly.

An innovative project to demonstrate what a pan-European infrastructure and service provision for electric vehicles could look like will receive almost €5 million (US$7.1 million) in EU co-funding from the TEN-T budget.
