Brown Traffic Products acquires Siemens traffic signals
Iowa, US, based Brown Traffic Products is to acquire certain assets of the traffic signal and cabinet manufacturing business units operated by Siemens in Austin, Texas. Siemens will remain focused on its traffic management systems and controller business. Upon the close of the acquisition, the 82 employees of Siemens’ manufacturing units will be integrated into Brown Traffic Products. Cellular-based probe system delivers real time traffic data
Toll and traffic management solutions provider IBI Group and Cellint Traffic Solutions, a provider of real-time road traffic information based on cellular data have successfully completed the data validation phase of the regional traffic data system (RTDS) project in Vancouver. The project aims to collect, disseminate and archive real time traffic flow information for the road network in Metro Vancouver and display real time traffic flow and travel time information on regional ATIS.

UK major road set to become internet-connected highway

Philippines Skyway 3 project to start by end 2013
The Philippines’ government has recently approved a US$612 million contract for the Metro Manila Skyway (MMS) Stage 3 Project which will connect the Southern Luzon Expressway to the Northern Luzon Expressway. The flood free, mostly elevated six lane expressway, is approximately 14.2 kilometres long and is expected to reduce congestion and reduce travel times on major roads in Manila.

Bluetooth helps Odense, Denmark tackle congestion
Odense municipality in Denmark has installed Bluetooth sensors along the city’s ring road to gather data on travel times and traffic flow. The BlipTrack system, manufactured by Danish company Blip Systems, utilises sensors at strategic points in the road network to detect signals from Bluetooth-enabled devices in passing cars to collect traffic and travel time information. UK government boosts road funding
Communities across the UK are set to benefit from government funding which will tackle traffic bottlenecks (pinch points) and congestion on local roads. Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has announced US$129 million of further funding to remove these bottlenecks, US$40 million of which has already been awarded to fifteen improvement schemes. McLoughlin also announced he was inviting local councils to submit bids by the end of October for a share of the remaining US$89 million being made available.

Vancouver to replace tunnel with toll bridge
In an effort to reduce "the worst bottleneck" to traffic in the region, Vancouver, British Columbia, is to replace the Massey Tunnel on highway 99 with a wider bridge that is expected to be a tolled. The four-lane lane tunnel, which opened in 1959, is heavily overloaded for much of the day, carrying an average daily traffic of around 80,000 vehicles. Public consultation favoured a new bridge over the alternatives of renovation and additional tubes.
