US companies develop Lidar-based speed enforcement

US companies All Traffic Solutions and DragonEye Technology have developed the TraffiCloud enforcement suite, combining All Traffic Solution's TraffiCloud web-based management services with Dragoneye's Lidar devices, which the companies say makes it easier for departments to improve accuracy, save time and reduce court challenges. The new Inrix Traffic mobile app uses machine learning to predict and personalise the user’s routes, destinations and alerts, adding favourite places automatically. Based on learned activities, it creates a daily, driver-specific itinerary of anticipated trips, as well as frequent and preferred routes. By accessing calendar information on a mobile device, the app also adds events with addresses to the daily driving itinerary.

Siemens launches one-watt traffic signal

Siemens claims to have improved the energy efficiency of traffic lights by more than 85 per cent by using what it calls one-watt technology. The first pilot projects are already running in Bolzano, Italy and Bietigheim-Bissingen near Stuttgart in Southern Germany.

New technology creates signs for safer roads for schoolchildren

Messagemaker has developed a new electronic speed reduction safety sign, which uses the latest LED technology and is fully programmable to initiate a temporary 20mph speed limit during school arrival and departure times, using 3G data modems to remotely set sign parameters and for retrieval of collected speed data.
