In Northamptonshire, Kettering Borough Council has replaced its aging pay and display machines with new Metric Aura Elite pay and display meters as part of an updating programme to provide customers with the best available choice. Vialis and Nedap are to join forces to improve traffic flow in Dutch cities and make parking easier. Vialis, a subsidiary of VolkerWessels, will integrate its Vivaldi dynamic traffic management system with the Nedap Sensit wireless parking space detection system. A large number of municipalities in the Netherlands already use Vivaldi to optimise traffic flow via traffic control systems and signs; Sensit wirelessly detects vacant parking spaces.

At a press conference yesterday with San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, BMW Group board member Dr Ian Robertson announced the upcoming launch of ParkNow, an innovative mobile parking solution that is a joint venture with Urban Mobility, and provided new details about DriveNow, a premium car-sharing service which features a fleet of BMW ActiveE all-electric vehicles. PayByPhone has won a contract to introduce a pay-by-phone payment service across approximately 13,000 on-street paid parking spaces throughout the city of Seattle. The service will enable drivers to use their cell phones to pay for parking. Drivers can also choose to receive a text message reminder before their parking time expires, with the option to add time remotely and receive parking receipts by email.
