WPS’ ParkAdvance installed at major Heathrow Airport hotel

WPS, the parking systems and management specialist, has installed its ParkAdvance pay-on-foot parking technology at a major Heathrow Airport hotel near Terminal 4 to control access at the hotel’s 100-space guest car park) and its two staff car parks. The system accommodates traditional pay-station payments, web enabled validation at the hotel’s reception, concierge desk, restaurant and gym and employee ID cards.
Lane departure warning, blind spot detection help drivers avoid trouble, say researchers

According to new research from the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), lane departure warning, a technology designed to address an often-fatal type of crash, is preventing crashes on US roads. A separate study shows that blind spot detection also is yielding benefits when it comes to preventing lane-change crashes.

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies to launch India's first Hyperloop

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) has announced a memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) to develop HTT's Hyperloop Transportation System and connect the city centres of Vijaywada and Amaravati. The proposed route will potentially turn a trip of more than one hour into a six minute ride. The project will use a public private partnership (PPP) model with funding primarily from private investors.
Illinois Tollway debuts SmartRoad

The Illinois Tollway and Pace Suburban Bus, along with regional project partners and local officials, have activated the I-90 SmartRoad on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway. It includes advanced technology to provide real-time roadway information to drivers and a dedicated Flex Lane for Pace buses to use whenever traffic conditions warrant. The 16-mile SmartRoad incorporates active traffic management using cameras, sensors and overhead gantries to more quickly bring detailed road information.

Mercedes-Benz Vans is investing US$50 million in new joint venture with US start-up Via to bring Via’s on-demand shuttle service, already launched in New York, Chicago and Washington DC, to Europe. The service will launch in London this year. The joint venture will also partner with public transit operators across Europe, licensing Via’s on-demand shuttle operating System to enable cities to significantly improve mobility while reducing congestion without incurring any additional infrastructure costs.

Scania in record delivery of hybrid vehicles to Norway

Scania is to deliver 140 buses for public transport in Kristiansand, south-west of the Norwegian capital Oslo. The delivery includes Scania Citywide LE Suburban Hybrid, Scania Citywide LE Suburban and Scania Higer A30 buses, each in a range of specifications. All buses can run on biodiesel. The buses will go into service in July 2018 and will be operated by transport company Boreal Buss, on behalf of the public transport operator Agder Kollektivtrafikk.
