Dublin-based start-up Luna has released a telematic device which it says uses 10cm-level positioning accuracy to help scooter companies ensure their scooters are ridden and parked correctly. The device uses GNSS/GPS positioning with an integrated correction service to achieve this accuracy. LG U+ demonstrated how a smartphone app can be used to summon an autonomous vehicle (AV) at the LG Science Park in Seoul, South Korea. A report by Korea Joongang Daily says an LG U+ employee summoned the AV connected to the carrier’s 5G network from a nearby car park and was able to monitor the car’s location through the app. Once inside the AV, the employee used the app to initiate a 2.5km journey around the park while a safety driver remained in the front seat. With the Tokyo 2020 Olympics fast approaching, Toyota is adapting 20 of its e-Palette autonomous shuttles to move contestants around the athletes’ village. Adoption of the automated electric vehicles has been based in part on feedback from athletes from past games about their mobility needs. The 5.2m long e-Palette shuttles feature large doors, a low floor and electric ramps to allow up to 20 Olympians or four wheelchair Paralympians (plus additional standing passengers), to board quickly and easily.
