Ford commits to C-V2X from 2022 in new US cars

All new Ford cars will be equipped with cellular vehicle to everything (C-V2X) technology in the US from 2022. In a blog post, Don Butler, executive director, Ford connected vehicle platform and product, said that the move would “help make city mobility safer and less congested”. The car maker has already committed to equipping all new vehicles released in the US with conventional cellular connectivity by the end of 2019. Kapsch TrafficCom has introduced what it says is the first configurable roadside unit for Cooperative Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X) direct communication. Governments are “lagging behind” in developing regulations to ensure the safety of autonomous vehicles (AVs). The US Department of Transportation (USDoT) is seeking public comment on how Vehicle to Everything (V2X) technology should be integrated into the transport environment. Ericsson’s Connected Vehicle Cloud (CVC) platform is being used by Volvo Cars to further develop its digital services. The five-year deal is expected to allow Volvo Cars to provide drivers with services such as automation, fleet management, telematics, navigation and infotainment.
