The IEEE has published is 1609.3-2016 Standard for Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) - Networking Services, which defines network and transport layer services that support secure WAVE data exchange, including addressing and routing.

Sydney, Australia is to trial connected technology in a bid to tackle congestion by reducing the number of times trucks stop at traffic signals. Minister for Roads Duncan Gay says the technology should improve travel time at more than 100 intersections across Sydney, resulting in smoother overall traffic flow for all road users.

Beginning this week, road users on the A58 motorway between Eindhoven and Tilburg in the Netherlands can test the rapid data infrastructure for their Shockwave traffic jam service. European Union rules on safety approvals for new cars will need to be revised to include ‘driving tests’ for automated and fully-autonomous vehicles according to a new report from the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC). ETSC says the EU is far from answering the many research and regulatory questions that must be considered before automated and autonomous vehicles can be put on sale. The report says the priority must be ensuring that the promised safety benefits are delivered in real world driving.
