Bikeplus calls for a greater emphasis on access to bikes

TomTom launches Traffic Checker
TomTom has introduced the TomTom Traffic Checker, available, from today on the free TomTom MyDrive app, to advise drivers of traffic congestion on their commute before they leave the house or office. Australia’s laws are ‘not ready for driverless vehicles’
Australia’s National Transport Commission (NTC) has released Regulatory Options for Automated Vehicles, a discussion paper that finds a number of legislative barriers to increasing vehicle automation. Registration opens for UK’s first public driverless vehicle trials
Members of the public can now register to take part in the UK’s first public driverless vehicle trials, due to take place later this year. Coalition urges White House to reject plan for open spectrum
A coalition of over fifty 50 automakers, state transportation agencies and other groups has written to the White House and other federal policymakers urging them not to open a portion of the wireless spectrum reserved for connected vehicles in the near future, says Reuters. US DOT issues RFP for connected vehicle pilot deployment and program evaluation
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released a solicitation for a full and open competition to procure services for non-personal, technical support services for the Connected Vehicle Pilot deployment and program evaluation. The Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment program includes three phases: Phase 1: Concept Development Phase, Phase 2: Design/Build/Test (for which this solicitation will ascertain that the objectives of the program are met), and Phase 3: Maintain and Operate.

Spirent and Aston Martin Racing continue technical partnership
Connected car verification systems provider Spirent Communications is to continue its technical partnership with Aston Martin Racing throughout the 2016 World Endurance Championship season. Spirent is working with Aston Martin Racing during testing to evaluate automotive technologies on the 2016 V8 Vantage GTE race cars, such as the accuracy and performance of GPS receivers and interference monitoring.

Driverless cars to be focus of new Texas A&M research facility
Texas A&M University has announced plans to build a new research campus focusing on several new technologies, including driverless and connected vehicles, robotics and large scale testing, as well as smart power grids and water systems. University chancellor John Sharp announced the US$150 million investment in the centre that will serve as a hub to help companies move ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace while also offering a new path toward a college degree.
