The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has begun work on installing an active traffic management |(ATM) system on interstate 66 through Arlington, Fairfax and Prince William counties from the Washington, DC line to Route 29 in Gainesville. Designed and built by TransCore, the system is intended to improve safety and incident management and will include new sign gantries, shoulder and lane control signs, speed displays, incident and queue detection, and increased traffic camera coverage.

A new report shows a 30 per cent increase in fatal traffic collisions and a 117 per cent increase in total traffic crashes at 51 intersections in Houston where red-light safety cameras once stood. The city of Phoenix, Arizona, has selected Redflex Traffic Systems, which has partnered with the city since 2009, to continue providing automated enforcement for its road safety program. Phoenix uses 12 red-light cameras at key intersections and deploys eight school-zone speed vans that rotate around the Phoenix schools to help enforce school speed limits, the release states.
