On August 4, 2020, the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) announced the launch of a connected vehicle corridor along Ala Moana Boulevard and Nimitz Highway, stretching from the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport to Waikiki. The deployed technology provides enhanced traffic flow, improved and reliable mobility, and safety-related alerts for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians through a free mobile application.

Road safety is obviously a priority for authorities around the world, and France is no exception. While the mortality on roads rate has been decreasing significantly this past decade, the figures are still a big concern. In fact, the improvement mainly concerns the extra-urban areas, but the number of accidents has increased in urban areas, with pedestrians and cyclists the most affected.

Worldwide, cities are increasingly seeing the need to implement high occupancy (HOT), express lane and road congestion tolling as they cope with rising costs associated with maintaining safe roads and highways for their citizens, while also improving road usage experiences.

The deployment of Phase 1 of the “connected vehicle ecosystem project,” a partnership between UDOT and Panasonic, has recently been completed and subsequent phases have now begun.

Wrong-way driving continues to be a critical issue for many states around the country. Every single day there is a death caused by a wrong-way driver. This problem needs a solution because roadway users have the right to be able to travel on the road knowing they will be able to return home safely.
