Danish city uses cell phone data to reduce travel times

The Danish city of Aarhus is using the anonymous data from drivers’ Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and GPS systems to assist them in reducing traffic congestion. Using Blip Systems’ technology and placing the small sensors in the road network, the road authorities can obtain traffic flow data in real time and proactively manage the road network to minimise delays and congestion.

Toll and traffic management solutions provider IBI Group and Cellint Traffic Solutions, a provider of real-time road traffic information based on cellular data have successfully completed the data validation phase of the regional traffic data system (RTDS) project in Vancouver. The UK Highways Agency has awarded the US$589 million contract for the design, implementation, delivery and operation of the new free-flow charging system to sanef.
