IRD aids in monitoring the effect of an evacuation

International Road Dynamics (IRD) supported Georgia Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) in advance of Hurricane Irma’s landfall to advise on ways in which MCCD could monitor the traffic at their weigh stations and provide useful information to internal and external stakeholders. MCCD, the agency responsible for weight and safety enforcement in the state, indicated they were already watching the IRD Virtual Weigh Station (VWS) websites very closely.
Delphi Partners with LeddarTech to provide LiDAR for autonomous vehicles

UK technology company Delphi Automotive is to partner with LeddarTech, a Canadian company developing solid-state LiDAR technology to collaborate on the development of a low-cost, corner LiDAR solution. They say the core technology can be developed rapidly and allows for easy vehicle integration.
GSSI partners with MIT Lincoln Laboratory to develop LGPR for autonomous vehicles

US-based Geophysical Survey Systems (GSSI), manufacturer of ground penetrating radar (GPR) equipment, has entered into a licensing agreement with Massachusetts Institute of technology (MIT) Lincoln Laboratory to build and sell commercial prototypes of their localised ground penetrating radar (LGPR) system, which helps autonomous vehicles navigate by using subsurface geology. The partnership will make prototype systems available to the self-driving vehicle industry.
Illinois Tollway debuts SmartRoad

The Illinois Tollway and Pace Suburban Bus, along with regional project partners and local officials, have activated the I-90 SmartRoad on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway. It includes advanced technology to provide real-time roadway information to drivers and a dedicated Flex Lane for Pace buses to use whenever traffic conditions warrant. The 16-mile SmartRoad incorporates active traffic management using cameras, sensors and overhead gantries to more quickly bring detailed road information.
Idaho WIM systems save trucking industry time and money

Figures released by the Idaho Transportation Department indicate that weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems installed at the state’s four points of entry (POE) have saved the trucking industry time and money in the last year. The data shows that trucks bypassing the port save an average of five minutes of time per incident, and almost a half a gallon of fuel. This amounts to a savings of about US$8.68 per bypass. Quarterhill subsidiary International Road Dynamics (IRD) has been awarded a contract valued at US$1.6 million (CA$1.95 million) to supply four commercial vehicle pre screening stations for the Regina, Saskatchewan Bypass project in Canada. The stations will be used by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure to monitor and screen commercial vehicles based on weights and dimensions.
