Drivers crossing Chile’s capital are benefitting from additional investment in ITS. Mauro Nogarin reports. Santiago de Chile is pioneering the development of concession-interoperable, multi-lane, free-flow urban highways. This road network crosses the city from north to south (Autopista Central), from east to west (Costanera Norte) and also includes the north-western (Vespucio Norte) and southern (Vespucio Sur) ring roads surrounding this metropolitan area of seven million people.

Tolling won’t begin until late this year, but drivers may soon notice cameras in place on the toll gantry located at the north end of the Abraham Lincoln Bridge, near Court Avenue, on the Ohio Rivers Project in the US. Two cameras are scheduled to be installed for testing as part of preparations for the new RiverLink all-electronic tolling system. Following the announcement in March of a contract award by Slovenia’s motorway management company Družba za Avtoceste v Republiki Sloveniji (DARS) to a consortium of Q-Free and Telekom Slovenije, the National Revision Commission of Slovenia has completed the complaint review process and all complaints have been rejected. Canadian asset manager Brookfield has emerged as the front runner to take over the portfolio of 11 road projects owned by Reliance Infrastructure in India, according to the country’s Economic Times. Reliance is among the largest NHAI concessionaire with concession periods ranging from 18-30 years. All its 11 roads - located in high traffic urban corridors including New Delhi, Bangalore, Jaipur, Agra, Gurgaon, Pune among others - currently generate revenues.
