Google live traffic announced for 13 European countries

Google has announced that it is making road traffic conditions available in 13 countries in Europe. The new traffic information is in the traffic layer on Google Maps, Google Maps for mobile, and Google Maps Navigation (Beta). Coverage includes all freeways and highways, as well as large roads in major cities in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland. Graham Construction has won the contract, worth over US$21 million, to provide the state-of-the-art ITS for the new Forth Bridge replacement crossing in Scotland. Bob McDonnell, governor of the state of Virginia, has announced that, beginning 22 August, motorists will see travel times displayed on Interstate 66 electronic message signs between the Capital Beltway and Gainesville. The effort is part of the governor's efforts to address congestion on the I-66 corridor. The UK Highways Agency has reached agreement with TomTom to feed up-to-date traffic information from England’s motorways and major A roads into its sat nav services for road users. The agency, which manages the 7,000km strategic road network, collects data on traffic flows from road sensors, backed up by CCTV and other sources. This data, which is already provided to drivers through the Agency’s own channels, will be fed to TomTom for its High Definition Traffic Services.
