New technology creates signs for safer roads for schoolchildren
Messagemaker has developed a new electronic speed reduction safety sign, which uses the latest LED technology and is fully programmable to initiate a temporary 20mph speed limit during school arrival and departure times, using 3G data modems to remotely set sign parameters and for retrieval of collected speed data. The signs can also be configured to revert to vehicle activated speed signs outside of the core school times.

European Commission approves funding for transport infrastructure
The European Union has unveiled a list of 195 transport projects that will receive US$7.4 billion (€6.7 billion) of funding under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). This investment is expected to unlock additional public and private co-financing for a combined amount of US$11 billion (€9.6 billion). Green light for traffic signal performance
A revamp of traffic light maintenance is helping to reduce congestion, save money and improve safety on Greater Manchester’s roads, according to the latest figures from Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), which is responsible for all 2,400 traffic signals across the region. These show that the number of incidents of traffic signal failure has steadily declined over the past three years. Columbus wins US Smart City Challenge
