Toyota invests $600m in China’s DiDi and sets up joint venture
Toyota is to invest $600 million in Chinese ride-hailing company DiDi Chuxing and will form a joint venture to develop vehicle-related services for its drivers. The partners intend to expand the connected services of Toyota’s Mobility Services Platform to include vehicle management, maintenance and financing for customers and drivers. UAE introducing new tolling system
A new road tolling system is to be implemented in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Sophisticated electronic tolling technology is being installed at the four bridges, Al Maqtaa, Mussafah, Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Khalifa, that connect with Abu Dhabi city. Introducing this tolling system is expected to generate an estimated US$109 million/year in revenue. Trafficware rolls out advanced controller software Scout

Trafficware, part of 378 Cubic Transportation Systems, has upgraded its controller software Scout to provide communities with more smart intersection technology.

The controller database has been expanded to support additional phases, overlaps, rings, channels, detectors and logic statements providing traffic engineers with options to enhance intersection features.

Cubic says the controller firmware addresses the requirements for SynchroGreen adaptive traffic signal control and connected and autonomous vehicle applications.

Halifax to upgrade pedestrian and cycling network
The Government of the Halifax Regional Municipality in Canada is jointly funding an improved pedestrian and cycling network, valued CAN$25 million. Mike Savage, mayor of Halifax Regional Municipality, says: “This bikeway is a critical part of the municipality’s Integrated Mobility Plan and our goal to move 30% of residents’ local travel to walking, cycling and transit by 2031.” The Halifax Regional Centre All Ages and Abilities Bikeway Network will include a 30km system of bicycle and pedestrian pathways.

Efkon to deploy traffic system in India
Efkon, a subsidiary of Strabag, is to install a traffic monitoring system covering an area of 85 km² in the city of Aligarh, India. Thomas Birtel, CEO of Strabag, says: “The introduction of the new transportation system will increase traffic safety. Indra tech to boost safety on Colombia highway
Indra is to supply traffic management technology, communications and toll systems to the Bucaramanga-Barrancabermeja-Yondó highway in Colombia, in a deal valued at €10.5 million. DfT to conduct UK road markings health check
The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) has awarded £2 million to develop a national health-check of road markings. The DfT is to analyse nearly 10,000 miles of road with the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) to understand where investment is needed. Traffic incidents ‘down 30%’ on Indiana toll road

World Economic Forum unveils SEAM library
The World Economic Forum (WEF) has built a policy library and gathered modelling tools to help decision-makers implement Shared, Electric and Automated Mobility (SEAM) options. The SEAM framework is a set of sustainable mobility policy guidelines aimed at helping cities alleviate congestion and reduce pollution.
