PTV has unveiled what it claims is a major new innovation: map & guide internet, the first cloud-based transport route planner. Hauliers and logistics companies may now use the map&guide software as a service (SaaS). They can simply plug in and use the software directly over the internet - saving time and money, since neither installation nor maintenance is required. PTV says the inexpensive solution, costing just €49 (US$65) per month, is particularly attractive for small and medium-sized businesses.

Belden has introduced a new Modular Industrial Patch Panel (MIPP) to its Belden and Hirschmann product lines that achieves what the company claims is a new first for the industry. The MIPP, which is a termination panel for cables that need to be connected to active equipment such as switches, industrial Ethernet devices and any other device with an Ethernet link, combines copper and fibre management into one solution. Hoeft & Wessel, a leading provider of ticketing solutions in Europe, has announced a left-hand drive version of its new on-board computer with ticket printer. The company says that with the new unit, transport companies in continental Europe will be able to offer high-speed e-ticketing, and even NFC-ticketing, on their buses and trams. Clearview Traffic has announced the Golden River M830, a new low-cost journey time monitoring and queue detection solution based on Bluetooth device recognition. A single unit detects and uniquely identifies multiple vehicles simultaneously across all lanes and in both directions. The company claims that on a dual carriageway the cost of an installed site is as little as 10 per cent of an equivalent ANPR installation.

Redflex Traffic Systems in the US has announced its latest innovation, Student Guardian, designed to curb dangerous driving behaviours, and enforce traffic laws on school bus routes. Every school day, thousands of motorists break state laws by driving around stopped school buses. The system provides students with an extra layer of protection as they enter and exit the bus, capturing images and video of potential violators who put children’s lives in danger.
