A strong government role remains critical to ensuring that the deployment of connected and automated vehicles (C/AVs) improves the quality of lives for all citizens – according to the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). A consortium led by TRL has been awarded £13.4 million ($10.1 million) of the UK government's £51 million ($38 million) Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) testbed funding to create a Smart Mobility Living Lab (SMLL) in Greenwich and nearby Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, London. The funding is part of the £100 million ($75 million) UK CAV test bed competitive fund and is the first investment by government and industry through Meridian to develop a national CAV testing infrastructure.
Chinese property developer Evergrande has acquired 51% of shares of NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden) in a bid to help the smart car firm develop green mobility solutions.
Evergrande’s business covers technology, real estate, health and cultural tourism.
The deal is expected to help NEVS develop a second car manufacturing plant in Shanghai which will be used to develop electric vehicles and transport solutions.
Currently, NEVS has a manufacturing plant in Tianjin, China, and Trollhättan, Sweden
Balfour Beatty Living Places (BBLP) has been awarded a five year Highways Services Partnership contract extension by Southampton City Council which aims to provide an efficient, sustainable and community focused highways service. The extension builds on a 10 year contract which started in October 2010 and increases it until the end of September 2025.
