ADVA Optical Networking expands technology for metro networking

German hardware and software specialist ADVA Optical Networking has expanded its FSP 3000 platform to cover metro networks and provide metro operators with high levels of flexibility, scale and synchronisation. German hardware and software specialist ADVA Optical Networking has expanded its FSP 3000 platform to cover metro networks and provide metro operators with high levels of flexibility, scale and synchronisation.

The ADVA FSP 3000 is said to provide a flexible and automated optical layer without the cost of a traditional reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer and features a cross-connect that enables users to scale optical transport networks (OTNs) without any capacity lock-in. To deliver the necessary time synchronizations for 5G, ADVA FSP 3000 TrueTime uses time-sensitive technologies for the highest performance and automatically compensates delay asymmetries.

However you define a ‘smart city’, one of the key ingredients will be an efficient transport system. As most governments and city authorities face financial constraints, incremental improvements in the existing systems is the most likely way forward. In London, new trains and signalling are improving the capacity of the Underground but that then reveals previously

With five years of traffic disruption ahead and an inadequate traffic monitoring system, the authorities in Riyadh needed a solution – and quickly. In preparation for embarking on what is currently the world’s largest metro construction project, the Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) in Riyadh needed to put in place measures to minimise the additional congestion and travel delays the five-year project would inevitably cause.

PTV Group has been appointed as one of the framework contractors for three years to provide tactical and microsimulation operational modelling software to Transport for London (TfL). TfL uses PTV Visum operational software for the development of the Operational Network Evaluation (ONE) model, a tactical highway assignment model for London, said to be the largest of its type in the world. An earlier version of the ONE model, covering the central London road network, was successfully used for the operatio
