Combining weight and speed violation detection with ANPR
UK company, CA Traffic has combined their Evo8 ANPR camera and Black Cat traffic monitoring technology to provide weigh in motion (WIM) and speed violation detection with high quality ANPR data. Both systems are configured with the local classification scheme, maximum road speed, vehicle speed and weight limits by class. Vehicle data (class, speed and weight) is sent from the Black Cat system to the EVo8, which checks for compliance with the data set for the road.

Sensys supplies red light enforcement to Oman
Swedish company, Sensys Traffic is to supply red light enforcement systems to the Royal Oman Police to boost traffic monitoring system in the city of Muscat, as part of a three party agreement with the police and its local partner, Trifoil. In a contract worth US$3.6 million, systems will be installed at complex crossroads in the city, using the company’s new RS242 radar to monitor violations, identify lanes and classify vehicles.

Jenoptik to install enforcement systems in Oman
German traffic solutions manufacturer, Jenoptik, which has already successfully installed systems in several Middle East states, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia, is to equip a further 600 sites in Oman with their latest speed and red-light monitoring systems. Slovakia to introduce road accident electronic chips
Members of the Slovak Parliament are assessing the new EU regulation which introduces the electronic safety chip as part of the mandatory car equipment from 2015. The chip is intended to save lives of car accident victims, as it will automatically call the rescue service in case in the event of a serious crash, relaying the time and place of the accident and exact location of the vehicle.

New report on rising global vehicle production
New research conducted by the Worldwatch Institute for its Vital Signs Online service indicates that production of passenger vehicles (cars and light trucks) rose from 74.4 million in 2010 to 76.8 million in 2011, and 2012 may bring an all-time high of 80 million or more vehicles.
