Flir thermal sensors aid police in capturing Boston bombing suspect
Last Monday morning two bomb blasts went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. By Friday night the suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was in police custody. After he survived a gunfight with police and slipped out of a dragnet, Massachusetts State Police finally spotted him via a thermal imaging technology manufactured by Flir.

Econolite celebrates 80 years in business at ITS America 2013
Econolite celebrated a major milestone here at the ITS America Annual Meeting – the company’s 80th birthday. It was in 1933 that Econolite began distribution of traffic signal controllers at a time when a gallon of gas cost just 10 cents and the interstate highway system hadn’t even been conceived.

Vantage IDM from Iteris at ITS America Nashville
Iteris has today formally announced Vantage IDM, which provides a simple unified module combining video vehicle detection and high speed communications designed to integrate directly into the chassis of a National Electronics Manufacturers Association (NEMA) traffic controller. Launching the product at the ITS America Annual Meeting, the company says it is the first integrated video detection/controller module available in the North American traffic market.

Can an iPhone change a traffic signal? All you need is the new Siemens app. New connected vehicle technology from Siemens Mobility and Logistics allows traffic signals to be controlled by vehicle arrival and priority rather than timing plans. Signal changes can even be triggered by an iPhone app combined with GPS, as Siemens demonstrates at ITS America.
