Arriva UK partners with HaCon on mobile travel app

Arriva UK Bus has partnered with German transportation software solutions HaCon to launch its mobile travel companion based on HaCon’s journey planner software HAFAS. The new mobile app for iPhones and Android-powered smartphones will provide customers with much greater functionality than before, while the HAFAS vehicle management system Smart VMS will provide the basis for comprehensive up to the minute passenger information.
Brazil launches LRT tender

Brazil's Goiás state has launched a tender for a 35-year concession to implement, operate and maintain its Goiânia-Anhanguera light rail transit (LRT) system budgeted at US$598 million. Indonesia to introduce ERP system to ease congestion

The administration of Jakarta City, Indonesia will introduce an electronic road pricing (ERP) system as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion by discouraging private vehicle use. Under the plan, several areas of the city will be designated as ERP areas and a toll payment is to be imposed on vehicles passing through the areas. The ERP system to be implemented by January-March 2014 will require vehicles to have special hologram stickers.

Residents in a number of cities in France, Germany as well as in the UK are currently multi-modal transport users. While only one out of four claim familiarity with the car sharing concept, once familiar, the interest levels in these services zip to 38 per cent.

Argentina’s train crash raises safety issues

At least 79 people were hurt on Saturday, some seriously, in a train crash at a Buenos Aires railway station where a deadly accident killed dozens just last year, raising even more concerns about the poor conditions. Brazilian highway and metro concessionaire CCR has signed a US$1.85 billion contract for a public-private partnership (PPP) to carry out phase II work on Bahia state capital Salvador's metro system in northeast Brazil. The PPP involves building a total of 33.4 kilometres of metro lines and 19 stations and includes building an extension to the metro's existing 6.6 kilometre line 1 and preparing a project to extend the line some a further 3.6 kilometres.

US-based detection technology company Aldis has received UK Highways Agency approval for its 3D vision-based vehicle and pedestrian detection system with tracking for traffic signal control and data collection. Aldis GridSmart replaces in-road detection technology with a single, static 3D camera at signal controlled junctions.
