Brazil's Goiás state has launched a tender for a 35-year concession to implement, operate and maintain its Goiânia-Anhanguera light rail transit (LRT) system budgeted at US$598 million. The administration of Jakarta City, Indonesia will introduce an electronic road pricing (ERP) system as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion by discouraging private vehicle use. Under the plan, several areas of the city will be designated as ERP areas and a toll payment is to be imposed on vehicles passing through the areas. The ERP system to be implemented by January-March 2014 will require vehicles to have special hologram stickers.

Brazilian highway and metro concessionaire CCR has signed a US$1.85 billion contract for a public-private partnership (PPP) to carry out phase II work on Bahia state capital Salvador's metro system in northeast Brazil. US-based detection technology company Aldis has received UK Highways Agency approval for its 3D vision-based vehicle and pedestrian detection system with tracking for traffic signal control and data collection. Aldis GridSmart replaces in-road detection technology with a single, static 3D camera at signal controlled junctions. The system can also be used for multi-directional traffic surveys, including complex turning movements and vehicle classification, as well as pedestrian detection and counting.
