FTA calls for all party support of roads reform proposals

New Jersey Turnpike streams traffic video
Live streaming video from over 500 New Jersey roadside traffic cameras is now available to TV stations, emergency responders and others via TrafficLand, which has been awarded a three year contract by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to redistribute streaming video from its roadway camera network. Norway’s PRA extends Q-Free tolling contract
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has awarded an order worth around US$4.8 million to Q-Free has for a six-month extension of the contract for operation of the country’s central toll collection system. Bi-State board votes to restart tolling services procurement
The Kentucky-Indiana Joint Board for the Ohio River Bridges Project has voted to restart the procurement of a tolling services provider. The vote comes after the Indiana Finance Authority’s review of a protest submitted by a non-winning bidder in late September. Independent review says most bus lanes should go
An independent review of Liverpool’s bus lanes is recommending that the majority be removed, but four in the city centre will be retained. On a number of other routes, measures such as bus detector loops are recommended. The city’s 26 bus lanes were suspended in October 2013 to monitor and analyse the effects on congestion and traffic flow. Transport consultant Mott MacDonald has carried out the review and their work was supported by groups of elected members, bus operators and the partners.

Ethiopia awards road construction projects
The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) has awarded US$1107 million of road construction projects to China Hunan Hunda Road & Bridge Construction and Spanish company UTE Elsamex. UTE Elsamex will upgrade 63.3 kilometres of gravel road to asphalt concrete; the total cost of US$60 million will be covered by a loan from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank (WB). Keolabs wins NFC Forum approval for new validation solution
Smart objects and NFC testing tools and services specialist Keolabs has had its NFC Forum Digital Validation solution accredited by the NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of NFC technology. The solution enables companies designing NFC-capable products to verify that their protocol implementation to NFC Forum standards is compliant and thus ensure they are interoperable with other NFC products.
