USDOT to host webinar on adapting to climate change using ITS
The USDOT's ITS Professional Capacity Building program will host a free Talking Technology and Transportation Webinar, Adapting to Climate Change Using Intelligent Transportation Systems on Tuesday, 10 May from 1300 pm to 1430 pm EST. Within the national framework for addressing climate change, USDOT says ITS is an important strategy to meet the growing need for climate resiliency and adaption. UK city upgrades parking technology
UK city Canterbury is to introduce Parkeon mobile and white-label website payment options alongside its ParkREG automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology. It has introduced the Parkeon Whoosh! app alongside ParkREG with barriers technology, rolling out the combination at four car parks in the city. The technology provides visitors with a cashless and ticketless convenient way to pay for parking via app, IVR and text. In addition, the council has unveiled a new ticketless parking website.

Integrated transport network proposed for Montréal
DPQ Infra, a subsidiary of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, has unveiled for its Réseau électrique métropolitain (REM), an integrated public transportation project. Under the proposal, the REM will link downtown Montréal, the South Shore, the West Island (Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue), the North Shore (Deux-Montagnes) and the airport in a unified, fully automated, 67km light rail transit (LRT) system comprising 24 stations and operating 20 hours a day, 7 days a week. France extends mobile speed enforcement
The French Ministry of the Interior plans to extend the country’s nationwide speed enforcement and has ordered an additional 100 enforcement trailers from Vitronic. The autonomous mobile Lidar-based systems utilise Vitronic's Poliscan speed technology and can operate autonomously for a minimum of five days. They will mainly be deployed on the French National Road network. Traffic signal upgrade for UK’s south-east

Carplus study into car clubs released
In a new report Carplus sets out how car clubs in new developments can work to reduce parking requirements, optimise land use and make developments viable in areas of parking pressure. According to Carplus, one car club vehicle replaces as many as ten privately owned vehicles, freeing up space whilst allowing people to have access to a car alongside public transport, walking and cycling.

NZ Bus transitioning to electric powered vehicles
New Zealand-based infrastructure investment company has announced a US$30m deal with US electric vehicle powertrain manufacturer Wrightspeed to supply its Route 500, which it intends to deploy on its public transport business through NZ Bus. Adgero to unveil world’s first operational road transport hybrid system at CVS
French transport tech developer Adgero will unveil what it says is the world’s first operational energy-saving, hybrid electric system for road transport at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham next week. Adgero’s hybrid technology consists of an electrically driven axle mounted under the semi-trailer, powered by a bank of ultra capacitors, and controlled by intelligent management software that automatically controls regenerative braking and acceleration boost.

SMRT Services and 2Getthere have formed a joint venture to market, supply and operate 2getthere’s automated vehicle systems in the Asia-Pacific region. The new Singapore-based JV, 2getthere Asia, will jointly market, install, operate and maintain the Automated Vehicle systems for customers in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific. ATS study claims distracted red-light running is on the rise
Analysis released during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month by American Traffic Solutions (ATS), Distracted on Red, showcases the dangers of distracted driving behaviour and impact on red-light running. City of Liverpool relies on thermal imaging to boost cycling
In an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage cycling, the city of Liverpool in the UK has installed Flir’s thermal imaging technology to give cyclists a head start at two busy intersections and make cycling safer. South Gloucestershire invests in speed warning signs
South Gloucestershire Council has purchased two mobile speed indicator signs (SIDs) from UK company Traffic Technology, which will be used to monitor traffic speeds at sites where there is a community concern about speeding vehicles or a history of speed-related injury accidents.
