TSS-2195 Transport Simulation Systems is showcasing its 7320 Aimsun Online real-time decision support system for traffic management. One of the most high-profile traffic management projects to use Aimsun Online as its prediction engine is the award-winning Interstate 15 Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) project led by the 1789 San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). At the core of the project is the configuration and implementation of a Decision Support System (DSS) using Aimsun Online.
“The DSS gives system managers comprehensive awareness of the current and predicted performance of the entire corridor,” says Matthew Juckes, senior project manager at TSS. “Now managers can take proactive steps to prevent system breakdown using enhanced controls across devices such as traffic signals, ramp meters, and dynamic message signs.”
Taking it one step further, earlier this year SANDAG completed a ‘Coordinated Test Plan’ for the first ever ‘fully automated’ multi-modal corridor handling of a freeway incident. TSS says this is one of the first times in the US that a traffic management decision has been successfully made entirely based on automatically triggered real-time simulations of the entire multi-modal transportation network.
Another recent innovation to come from the ICM project is the free 511 San Diego mobile application which is available for iOs and 1812 Android. Funded by the 324 US Department of Transportation, the app provides real-time predictions from Aimsun Online and system based advisories, letting users view predictive travel times on I-15; current traffic conditions; MTS bus routes, fares, arrival times; as well as real-time dynamic toll rates for the I-15 Express Lanes. Since its launch in May 2014 it has already had over 25,000 downloads.
Sensys Networks and Verizon will formally launch the Intelligent Traffic Management (ITM) service, a new IoT platform for smart cities, at their joint booth at ITS America 2016 in San Jose. This follows on the recent partnership announced late last year which was covered in ITS International
With over five months to go before the 18th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems gets underway in Orlando, Florida (from October 16-20), 89 per cent of the current exhibit floor plan has now been reserved, according to ITS America's director of business development, Barbara M. O'Connor.
TISPOL has welcomed a package of measures announced by the European Commission (EC) to help reduce the 25,000 deaths that occur on EU roads annually. Ruth Purdie, general secretary of TISPOL, says: “Today’s announcements could represent the biggest step forward in road safety in Europe since the introduction of the seat belt." Antonio Avenoso of the European Transport Safety Council said the EC’s announcements require backing from EU member states and the European Parliament. They should not give in to
Traficon’s appearance at this year’s ITS America Annual Meeting coincides with the company’s 20th birthday, and its booth will feature a wide range of video detection products and solutions. Among them will be the company’s Video Image Processor (VIP) that combines traffic flow monitoring and automatic incident detection functionality in one single board. The VIP-T module analyses images from analogue cameras while the VIP-IP can connect to a broad range of IP cameras, supporting both MPEG-4 and new H.264 v
