Stockholm seeks intelligent transport solutions

The city of Stockholm is inviting submissions of solutions for its “Intelligent Transport Solutions” challenge by 28th February. Kista Science City is seeking solutions that are innovative, customer-oriented traveller services to support shifts in mobility patterns, away from cars toward public transport, biking and walking. The winner will be invited to pilot the solution in the city, with full support by all local stakeholders to evaluate the solution before a full-scale roll-out.

The Challenge posed by Stockholm forms part of the Living Labs Global Award 2011 in which eight global cities (Barcelona, Cape Town, Eindhoven, Lagos, San Francisco, Sant Cugat, Stockholm, and Taipei) present technology challenges to help 40 million citizens in America, Africa, Asia and Europe.

Kista Science City has a comprehensive network of hundreds of innovative companies in ICT, including 5650 Ericsson, 5651 Oracle, 2214 Microsoft, 62 IBM, two universities and about 1,000 researchers in several ICT research institutes. It is developing into a testbed for ITS that combines modern technologies with social entrepreneurship, co-creation, crowdsourcing and open innovation. As a virtual testbed for Stockholm, Kista is collaborating with all key stakeholders but is not restricted by ties to any particular infrastructure and the transport authorities, and operators are in parallel developing traffic API’s, so as new opportunities appear they will be part of an “infrastructure.”

Submissions follow the format of the Living Labs Global Showcase and can be submitted for free until the 28 February deadline.
