ITS Australia hosts Technical Tours at ITS World Congress

ITS Australia is to host a series of technical tours at this year’s ITS World Congress, to be held in Melbourne 10-14 October. A selection of Melbourne’s transport organisations will guide attendees through tours in Melbourne as well as Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland, New Zealand. ITS Australia is to host a series of technical tours at this year’s 6456 ITS World Congress, to be held in Melbourne 10-14 October. A selection of Melbourne’s transport organisations will guide attendees through tours in Melbourne as well as Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland, New Zealand. Participants will be given a unique insight into the intricate details of systems that support the world’s most liveable city.

Delegates will have the opportunity to take technical tours to: CityLink fully electronic toll road, hosted by 600 Transurban; Melbourne’s EastLink fully electronic tollway, conducted by ConnectEast); Managed Motorway operation, SmartWork Zones, SmartRoads and 4728 VicRoads Traffic Management Centre, all conducted by VicRoads.

A pre-congress visit to Auckland’s Transport Management Systems, Devonport Ferry, Public Transport Control and Integrated Ticketing System, conducted by ITS New Zealand in conjunction with New Zealand Transport Agency and Auckland Transport, takes place on 8 October.

Other technical tours include Victoria’s Public Transport Control Centres, 7525 Yarra Trams and Metro Trains, conducted by Public Transport Victoria; Port of Melbourne and Melbourne Port System tour, conducted by the Port of Melbourne Corporation; Melbourne Airport, conducted by Melbourne Airport.

There are also tours to two educational establishments: Aerospace, Automotive and Manufacturing Laboratory Showcase at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT); Factory of the Future, Smart Structures and Research-Led Innovation at Swinburne University of Technology.

According to ITS Australia CEO Susan Harris, the technical tours provide a rare opportunity for international ITS Congress attendees to obtain a valuable insight into Melbourne’s transport system, one which they will not see anywhere else.
