FDOT coordinates with THEA on TAMPA connected vehicle pilot
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 will provide over 40 video traffic detectors at 12 intersections to allow improved traffic signals to operate at Tampa’s Connected Vehicle Pilot. The project, launched by the Tampa-Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA), plans to use vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication to reduce travel times and make traffic flow smoother and safer in the region’s commercial business district (CBD).

Addnode acquires InPort to provide logistics solutions
To strengthen its position as a provider of logistics solutions for ports, Addnode Group has acquired software company InPort Intelligent Port Systems AB (InPort). Upon completion of the deal, InPort will be integrated into Addnode’s Group’s Process Management Division, on 2 January 2018. Videantis partners with Adasens on sensing technology for self-driving vehicles
Adasens has entered a partnership to provide its portfolio of computer vision functions to Videantis in a project that aims to bring advanced sensing technologies to self-driving vehicles and automotive advanced driver assistance systems applications. Videantis will also offer its low-power, high-performance embedded vision processor to the agreement.

EastLink trials hands-free driving through its tunnels
EastLink (EL) has conducted a hands-free driving demonstration through its freeway tunnels using Honda Civic VTi-LX’s lane keep assist function. The trial, closed to traffic, aimed to help Victorian motorists understand the technology and other driver assistance functions after the Annual Victorian Self-Driving Survey revealed more than half of the 15,000 of the respondents had very little or no awareness of self-driving cars.

Panasonic develops driver drowsiness-control technology
Panasonic Corporation has developed technology for detecting and predicting a person’s level of drowsiness prior to driving. This technology, which helps prevent drowsy driving, detects a driver’s shallow drowsiness at the initial state by using an in-vehicle camera to capture indicators such as blinking features and facial expressions and processing these signals using artificial intelligence. Bosch’s Perfectly Keyless turns the smartphone into a car key
Bosch aims to end the ritual hunt for car keys with its Perfectly Keyless digital vehicle access system for vehicles equipped with suitable proximity sensors and control system. Drivers download an app onto their smartphone and connect the car to the app; the smartphone generates a one-off security key that fits the vehicle’s ‘digital lock’. The system then uses a wireless connection to the on-board sensors to measure how far away the smartphone is, and to identify the security key.

Navya showcases Autonom cab in Paris
Navya has unveiled its Autonom Cab (AC) in Paris to address challenges urban populations face when travelling in and around cities. The cab, designed to be completely autonomous, comes without a cockpit, steering wheel or pedals and can carry up to six passengers. It is capable of speeds up to 90km/h, but will average towards 50km/h to conform with local speed limits. NHSTA responds to Trump Administration’s decision not to pursue V2V mandate
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has responded to the Trump Administration’s decision to set aside plans to require new cars to be able to communicate with each other wirelessly through vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technology. GTT launch new service for emergency services to get priority control at intersections
Global Traffic Technologies (GTT) has introduced an Opticom Priority Control as a Service (PCaas) to Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) departments to enable priority control at intersections and get vehicles to the scene of an emergency quickly and safely.
