UTA brings Europe-wide tolling solution to Germany
Union Tank Eckstein (UTA) has introduced UTA One in Germany as part of its stated aim to provide a single toll solution for Europe. The company says UTA One allows transport firms to pay toll fees with one single invoice and offers single trip reporting, including an analysis of the covered toll routes of individual heavy goods vehicles. Currently, UTA One supports the toll systems in Belgium, France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Portugal and Spain. The solution is to be extended to include Czech Republic,

Slattery quits Conduent Transportation in surprise move
Mick Slattery has left Conduent Transportation after just 10 months as CEO. The company said he made the decision for ‘personal reasons’. Slattery “has decided to leave Conduent to pursue other opportunities outside of the transportation industry”, the firm said in a statement. “An internal and external search is underway for a successor.” He joined the company in August 2018 after a career in management consultancy with an emphasis on technology and digital. Q-Free to install tolling solution in Norway
Q-Free is to provide its automatic number plate recognition service to five unnamed regional tolling companies in Norway – in a deal valued 26 million NOK (£2.3m). Q-Free says the five-year contract will provide a new system for toll charging in Norway. The project is scheduled to begin this Autumn.

Conduent hires Cubic’s Scott Doering to lead tolling
Conduent Transportation has appointed Scott Doering as general manager, road usage charging. Doering joins from Cubic Transportation Systems, where he was business director for road user charging. US lawmakers support Kapsch TrafficCom in Neology dispute
US lawmakers have supported Kapsch TrafficCom in its patent dispute with Neology. Microsoft predicts ‘pay as you-go’ solution to congestion
Congestion pricing is the solution to inner city traffic gridlock, according to Microsoft’s chief economist, Michael Schwarz. InDriver has launched its ride-hailing app in New York City (NYC) which allows the driver and passenger to negotiate lower fares. The app allows users to set a fare for a selected route. Nearby drivers receive the destination and fare and can either accept or bargain for more money.
