CRRC Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems Limited (PBTS), a joint venture between Bombardier Transportation and CRRC Corporation, has won a contract to deliver its Innovia Monorail 300 platform (IM300) along with 240 cars to Wuhu City in Anhui Province, to open in 2020. The deal, valued ¥1.785b (£203m), is designed with the intention of providing a reliable and green transportation system that better serves its passengers. ITS provider HMI Technologies and its subsidiary Ohmio will develop a manufacturing plant for autonomous vehicles and an artificial intelligence transport research centre in the Heshan, China. The project is part of a $20m agreement with the city’s Industrial City Management Committee and will commence from 1 July.
Chinese artificial intelligence company Baidu has tested two self-driving cars for the first time along a 33km section of an unused expressway in Tianjin City. A news report says that the trial helped developers collect data on the cars’ performance and their ability to sense the road environment. The test site is part of the Tangshan-Langfang expressway, which is scheduled to open in the Hebei province later this year.
German car manufacturer Daimler has extended its partnership with technology company Baidu in China to develop automated driving and connectivity projects.
The companies partnered in 2017 to develop the Baidu Apollo, an open platform intended to support the major features and functions of automated vehicles. Daimler also joined the Apollo Committee, a group whose stated aim is to accelerate research on safer solutions in automated driving and promote the drafting of related regulations.
