WDM skid resistance measurement
The latest version of a specialist survey machine that has helped save thousands of lives around the world by monitoring the wet road skid resistance of pavement surfaces will be appearing at 70 Intertraffic Amsterdam 2014.

The Sideway-force Coefficient Routine Investigation Machine (SCRIM) began life more than four decades ago, but has been continually developed to meet modern day requirements by UK company 7604 WDM.

WDM is the sole licensed manufacturer worldwide of SCRIM, working under licence to the UK Transport Research Laboratory (491 TRL). Its manufacture complies with current British Standard BS 7941-1:2006.

SCRIM is used by highway authorities worldwide for network skidding resistance surveys as part of asset management and maintenance programmes. More than 60 SCRIM are successfully operating around the world, helping make roads safer. For example, for the last 17 years, as part of a government skid policy, SCRIM has been used to survey the whole of New Zealand’s highway network, helping reduce skid related accidents by 40 per cent as well as delivering a cost/benefit return of more than 30.

At Intertraffic, WDM, which is the UK’s leading manufacturer and provider of highway survey and monitoring equipment, will be showing one of its mini-SCRIMs, which was developed for survey work in towns, cities and on smaller roads.

With a unique understanding of highway maintenance and asset management, WDM is also the UK’s largest survey contractor, serving all UK Government agencies and 90 per cent of local authorities.
